SEAN Anthony was so focused on Meralco’s game against Talk ‘N Text that keeping count of the score was the last thing on his mind.
The Fil-Am forward’s dedication and hard work paid off as the Bolts put a game to remember as they trounced Talk ‘N Text, 119-85, in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Tuesday night.
It turned out to be the team’s biggest winning margin in franchise history, eclipsing its 112-79 win over Air21 last November 2013.
It was also the Tropang Texters’ worst loss since suffering a similar 34-point blowout at the hands of Petron, 122-88, two years ago.
“I was very surprised (of the score),” Anthony admitted after the game. “I didn’t really notice it until the game was done. We were all zoned in, just kept playing.”
“I wasn’t really doing the match and when I looked up, I said, ‘wait, is that really the score?’,” he added. “We did play well as a team both offensively and defensively.”
Anthony was a major factor in the one-sided win as he tallied a season-high 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting, on top of 12 rebounds, six assists, and a steal in 31 minutes.
“It was about finding ourselves and finding our team,” the Filipino-Canadian cager said. “We had flashes (in the past few games), but I think tonight, we put a full game together where we played really well both offensively and defensively.”
While acknowledging the Tropang Texters may have had a rare uncharacteristic performance, Anthony believes the Bolts’ solid showing on both ends had as much to do with the rout.
“We just caught Talk ‘N Text on an off night. It’s not every day that a game like this happens, but we played really great as a team,” the Bolts’ workhorse said as his team moved above .500 with a 4-3 win-loss record.
