SEAN Anthony is a game time decision for NorthPort as it tries to stave off elimination in the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs.
Anthony said the MRI showed no torn muscle in his groin area after suffering the injury in the Batang Pier’s 100-97 win over Barangay Ginebra.
The Fil-Canadian forward said there is only a strain on the injured area which may prevent him from suiting up in the team’s do-or-die quarterfinals encounter against No. 2 seed Rain or Shine Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Working on it now to see if I can play later,” said Anthony, who added the injury is actually in his groin muscle.
“But it assists in hamstring flexion which is why it feels like a hamstring as well,” Anthony said.
NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio aired his concern over Anthony’s health going to the playoffs, where as the seventh seeded team, the Batang Pier need to beat the Elasto Painters twice to advance to the semifinals.
“Siyempre Big Three natin yan (Anthony). Siya si Mo (Tautuaa) and Stanley (Pringle),” he said.
The Batang Pier swept their last three remaining outings to qualify for the playoffs, including the close win over Ginebra where Anthony suffered the injury.
As the No. 8 seed during last year’s Commissioner’s Cup, NorthPort dragged top seeded Rain or Shine to a winner-take-all encounter only to fall short in the end.
