SEAN Anthony deflected the credit to his teammates for his offensive explosion in NLEX’s 107-101 win over Talk ‘N Text on Friday night in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup.
The hard-working Road Warriors forward fired a career-high 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting, on top of 12 boards, two assists, and one steal in 35 minutes as he had a huge hand in the team’s comeback victory.
“It was a team win,” Anthony said. “It wasn’t all me. We feed off one another and it’s nice to have that today.”
“Everyone stepped up tonight,” he added, mentioning veteran Asi Taulava and rookie Simon Enciso, among others. “Everyone contributed something.”
“That’s the only way to beat a team like Talk ‘N Text: a whole team comes out and plays like we did,” he continued.
But Taulava, who tallied 18 points and 18 rebounds pointed to Anthony as the man largely responsible for the Road Warriors getting back on track.
“Sean played an unbelievable game,” said Taulava, who has been reunited with Anthony, who was a teammate with Air21 before.
Anthony has been putting career numbers early in the season, consistently coming up with a double-double to register averages of 18 points and a league-leading 14 boards coming into the game.
Once again, the 6-foot-4 forward credits coach Boyet Fernandez for the trust being given to him.
“The consistency comes with coach’s consistency with me, making sure I get some touches and minutes,” the Filipino-Canadian cager said. “I just play hard and rebound come my way once in a while.”
