THE rebounding effort could have taken its toll on Scottie Thompson.
The sophomore Ginebra guard ended up with a hurting back after the Kings’ 99-90 win over the Blackwater Elite in Friday’s main game of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Astrodome.
The 6-foot-1 Thompson had a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds in the Kings’ fifth win in nine outings, marking the third time in the team’s last four games he finished with 15 rebounds or more.
But the effort appeared to have taken its toll on the prized Ginebra recruit.
Thompson said his back is stiff after the game that he politely declined interview requests by reporters. He even had to be assisted out of the venue by a Barangay Ginebra staff past a throng of fans waiting for autographs and photo ops.
His status should be of concern as Ginebra plays Phoenix on Sunday.
Already questionable for Ginebra is Japeth Aguilar, who is feared to have hyperextended his elbow after a bad fall in the second quarter and sat out the entire second half.
The do-it-all playmaker out of Perpetual Help University is averaging 13.7 points in Ginebra’s last four games and had a career-high 17 rebounds in Ginebra’s 86-79 win over Star on Christmas Day.
