IT seems Justin Brownlee won’t have to worry that much about how to make ends meet while he’s not suiting up for Barangay Ginebra.

After all, the well-loved Gin Kings import and the rest of the team received a substantial bonus from big boss Ramon S. Ang after a successful defense of their PBA Governors’ Cup championship last week.

Brownlee declined to go into specifics, but hinted it’s enough for him to last until he returns as the Gin Kings’ reinforcement either in the Commissioner’s Cup in the second quarter of next year or in their title-retention bid in the season-ending tournament.

“Yeah, it’s good,” the 29-year-old cager said during the team’s victory party on Monday night at the SMC compound.

“It’s a big bonus,” he added with a smile. “I don’t want to give a number, but it’s a good bonus.”

Scottie Thompson echoed their import’s sentiment, but also didn’t mention an exact figure.

“Basta masaya kami lahat sa binigay na bonus,” the incoming third-year playmaker said.

Pressed to give at least a ballpark figure, Thompson hinted it can buy you a handful of franchise outlets of his own Thompson’s Sports Hair Shop, which started in his native Digos City, but now has a franchise in Paranaque.

“Siguro tatlo, apat (na franchise), ganun,” the do-it-all playmaker said.

According to team insiders, the Gin Kings received bonuses equivalent to nine times of their respective salaries when they ended an eight-year title drought by ruling the Governors’ Cup last year.

So by making it back-to-back this year, the windfall must at least be equal or slightly higher.
