Fajardo left in awe as Scottie Thompson stands out in Ginebra loss with triple-double

    Mar 17, 2018

SCOTTIE Thompson emerged as one of Ginebra’s few bright spots by putting up a triple-double in the team’s 100-94 loss to San Miguel Beer in Game Five of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals that eliminated the Gin Kings from contention.

The third-year combo guard pumped in 10 points, 16 boards, and 16 assists, on top of two steals, and one assist in 42 minutes, leaving even reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo in awe.

“Magaling si Scottie tumiming sa rebound,” said the 6-foot-10 Fajardo, who stands nine inches taller than Thompson. “Magaling din siya mag-draw ng depensa. Lagi niya nahahanap yung bakanteng teammates niya.”

“Siya yung isa sa priority namin sa defense eh, pero nakaka-rebound pa rin siya,” he added of the former NCAA MVP out of Perpetual Help and pride of Digos, Davao del Sur.

Fajardo may be amazed, but he’s not surprised of the all-around exploits of Thompson, who registered his second career triple-double.

“Hindi naman nakakagulat (yung triple-double),” Fajardo said as the Beermen marched on the finals for the fourth straight time. “Sobrang aggressive niya kasi. Buti yung iba na-stop namin. si kuya LA, na-stop namin.”

Thompson had already left the building when reporters tried to reach him for interview.
