SCOTTIE Thompson delivered a near triple double as he played with a sense of urgency on the urging of coach Tim Cone in Barangay Ginebra’s lopsided 103-77 win over KIA in the PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 24-year-old Thompson had 12 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists in the Kings’ fourth win in eighth outings. He shot 5-of-7 from the field and had the longest exposure among the players after logging 32 minutes.
The former NCAA MVP from University of Perpetual Help said he was just taking Cone’s instruction by heart.
“Sabi nga ni coach Tim, playoff game na namin ito starting now hanggang sa matapos yung eliminations,” he said of Cone’s directive after the Kings lost four of five games prior to the win over KIA.
“Kaya stay aggressive lang ako. Yun ang lagi kong ginagawa, yun ang hindi ko tinatanggal sa game ko,” added Thompson. “Kahit malas ako at hindi maka-shoot, yun lang (aggressive) ang maitutulong ko sa team.”
Apart from Thompson, four other Kings finished in double figures led by Greg Slaughter with 14 points (eight rebounds), Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio with 13 each, while Kevin Ferrer added 10.
But Thompson was feeling it and took it upon himself to run the show for the team with Cone’s go-signal, of course.
“Step up lang ako sa lahat na binibigay ng chance sa akin ni coach Tim,” he said.
