Scottie Thompson named PBA Finals MVP after Ginebra ends drought

SCOTTIE Thompson bucked a nagging hamstring injury and émerged as the winner of the Ramon Fernandez Finals MVP award of the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Thompson came out big when it mattered most, delivering a near triple-double in the title-clinching 88-76 Barangay Ginebra win over TNT in Game 7 of the title series before a record crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The one-time MVP finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists as the Kings wrapped up a compelling best-of-seven series, 4-3.

It was the third Finals MVP for the 32-year-old guard out of University of Perpetual Help, counting his previous trophies in the 2018 Commissioner's Cup and 2021 Governors Cup.

The former league MVP considered this as special since as he admitted, 'it was an unexpected' one.

    In the title series, Thompson averaged 10.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.3 steals.

    He beat out teammates Troy Rosario and RJ Abarrientos for the award being given out by the PBA Press Corps and named after four-time MVP and PBA great Ramon Fernandez.
