QUIETLY overlooked in Barangay Ginebra’s 101-80 rout of Terrafirma Wednesday night in the PBA Philippine Cup was Scottie Thompson accomplishing another career milestone for the season.
The former MVP posted his 500th steal for the guard’s third Career Achievement Award for Season 49, according to chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.

Thompson reached the mark just 48 seconds into the second half when he intercepted an Aljun Melecio pass and assisted on a Japeth Aguilar layup that made it a 55-35 lead for the Kings.
“Yung ganung achievements napakasarap sa feeling,” he said when asked about reaching another personal career record.
The mark was another milestone for the 31-year-old Thompson, who earlier in the season also reached 2,000 defensive rebounds and issued 2,000 assists.
The University of Perpetual Help alum capped the special night by having an all-around game of 11 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists.
He referred to the landmark record as another blessing.
“It’s a testament to the hard work na ginagawa namin as players, na nabibigyan kami ng mga ganung achievements. Sobrang blessed kami sa ganun,” he said later.
“Since I got here sa team, I take pride on my defense,” Thompson added. “But overall more than the steals, yung wala sa stats yun ang importante sa amin especially sa team na ito.”
Thompson became the 35th player in PBA history to achieve the feat, the ninth among active players, and the fifth in a Barangay Ginebra uniform.
