JAMES Yap will have to wait a little bit longer to join an elite cast of prolific scorers after seeing Rain or Shine’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup reign come to an end following Star’s 84-69 win.
The Elasto Painters star shooting guard scored just three points on 1-of-5 shooting on Wednesday night, leaving him 19 points short of becoming the 14th member of the 10,000-point club.
It would’ve been extra special if Yap reached the milestone against the team where he spent the first 12 years of his career, but Yap doesn’t mind the extra wait.
“Honestly, hindi ko talaga iniisip yun (10,000 points),” the 35-year-old cager insisted.
The two-time MVP scored just eight points in two games in the quarterfinals as he failed the sustain the gains he had in their last two games in the eliminations when he flashed his vintage form, averaging 22.5 points on 51.6-percent shooting in 28.5 minutes.
Yap gave credit to his former team for doing their homework.
First hanggang half the fourth, last six minutes, okay pa naman eh, biglang lumayo lang. Charge to experience.”
Yap has yet to beat the Hotshots, who are now 4-0 against ROS since the blockbuster Yap-Paul Lee trade in the offseason.
“Wala naman eh [frustrations on losing vs. Star],” Yap said.
Yap, though, is hoping the E-Painters can get back to top form.
“Tingnan natin basta hard work and yung disiplina hindi mawawala, kumpiyansa pa rin. Ganun lang naman eh.”
