ANTIPOLO – It was the birthday of Schonny Winston’s mother on Tuesday.
And his birthday gift? It came in the form of a PBA career-high
The NLEX guard came through with a career-best of 30 points in a runaway 135-100 blowout of Titan Ultra in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center.
Winston shot 12-of-18 from the floor and added nine rebounds and six assists in the Road Warriors’ third straight win for the solo lead.

The output erased his previous high of 26 points he scored against San Miguel in a 114-100 win during the 2024 Governors’ Cup quarterfinals while he was still with Converge, according to PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.
“It feels good. It’s my mom’s birthday. So shout out to my mom,” said the third year guard, who was caught by surprise when told about scoring a new career-high.
“She watched every game. So that’s for my mom.”
Things have been going great for Winston, 28, since being acquired by NLEX in a three-team trade with Converge and Meralco in the mid-season.
He has consistently played well as the Road Warriors’ second major offensive option after Robert Bolick under previous coach Jong Uichico, and now with Jimmy Alapag.
The transition from two coaches is going good, according to the Fil-Am guard.
“We’re 3-0 right now, so we can’t complain,” he said. “We just have to keep on pushing, keep on getting better every game.”
Although just three games into the conference, Winston said he’s proud being coached by a PBA great.
“He’s a legend. Everyone knows who he is,” he said of Alapag. “He’s a winner, champion leader. And his resume is so high.
“So you know, everyday we come in, we learn, we built, and we grow.”
