SCHONNY Winston looks forward with optimism, as he begins a new chapter in his PBA career playing for NLEX.
The Fil-Am guard stressed the goal is to continue getting better by working hard every day, previously with Converge, and now with the Road Warriors.
Winston suits up for his new team on Friday when it tangles with Magnolia at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
“I’m looking forward at playing for NLEX. Guys at NLEX welcomed me with open arms, and I will go and play hard for them and compete and enjoy my time with them,” said the third-year guard out of La Salle.

After two years of playing for the FiberXers, who selected him ninth overall in the Season 48 draft, Winston wore out his welcome with the franchise when he was dealt to NLEX as part of a three-team trade with Meralco that also involved forwards Jonnel Policarpio and Javee Mocon, veteran Kevin Racal, and rookie Kurt Reyson.

Winston admitted getting surprised by the trade, considering he just signed a new two-year contract with Converge prior to the start of Season 50.
“Yeah, I was. I didn’t know,” he said, looking back. “I just found out like everyone else found out.”
He was told about the move on the day the trade was officially made.
“In the locker room, we had a meeting, said goodbye, farewell, so we got to say our goodbyes," he added.
No bad blood
But to be clear, Winston said he harbors no ill will for his former team.
“It’s a business. It happens in the PBA, people get traded,” he said. “I love those guys at Converge, we got a good relationship, but it’s professional.”

Now, a new beginning beckons with the Road Warriors.
“I go to NLEX and be with those guys, build the relationship and chemistry, and compete,” stressed Winston.
