SCHONNY Winston set the tone for NLEX's win over Phoenix Super LPG on Sunday in the PBA 50th Season Commissioner's Cup.
Winston scored 11 of his 16 points in the first quarter to help the Road Warriors get off to a 33-17 lead. NLEX never looked back from there on its way to a 120-102 win over Phoenix Super LPG - its second straight and fourth in five games overall.

The third-year guard continued his strong showing for NLEX since he arrived from Converge in a five-player, three-team trade that also involved Meralco.
“We definitely want to come out aggressive,” said Winston, who surpassed his scoring average of 15.75 points in just 27 minutes of action. “They are going to bring a lot of energy so our goal is to bring a lot of energy today. I felt like we did that. We executed well. We didn't play perfect but we ended up with a win today.”
Even with his remarkable performance in just his first conference with NLEX, Winston said he continues to aspire for improvement, careful not to get satisfied with his strong start with his new squad.
“I think it's not a final thing but it's a continuous growth as a team and as a player. It's not a destination that we reach. It's continuously getting better and going out everyday with my teammates,” said Winston.
“We are winning now and making it look easy but it's a day-to-day process. Just continue to watch film, talk to the coaches, talk to my teammates to continue to build that chemistry. They've been together for a long time. Me hopping now and just trying to hop on board to what they are doing, it's been going good so far,” said Winston.
