THE race for the No. 1 spot in Group B has drastically changed following the result of San Miguel’s game against Blackwater.
In case you missed it, San Miguel suffered a 111-94 defeat over Blackwater to go down to 6-4, and essentially out of contention for the top-seed in Group B. That leaves Rain or Shine and Barangay Ginebra as the only teams who have a shot at the top spot in Group B.

With SMB now out of the picture for that No. 1 seed, here’s how Rain or Shine and Barangay Ginebra can secure the top spot in Group B:
Rain or Shine
The Elasto Painters only need to win over Blackwater on Monday in order to clinch the No. 1 spot in Group B.
Barangay Ginebra
The Gin Kings will have to win over NLEX on Sunday in order to stay alive for that top seed in Group B. Ginebra will then clinch No. 1 if Rain or Shine loses to Blackwater on Monday.
What’s the highest seed SMB can get?
With its defeat over Blackwater, San Miguel can still get the No. 2 seed if Barangay Ginebra loses to NLEX. The Beermen and the Gin Kings will end up at 6-4, but the Beermen have the better quotient aided by their 49-point win in their second round outing.
Bonus fact
Also because of the result of Saturday’s game between San Miguel and Blackwater, there is now a possibility of a Manila Clasico quarterfinals.
If Ginebra wins over NLEX and Rain or Shine wins over Blackwater, the Gin Kings will taking the No. 2 seed in Group B, which means it will battle the No. 3 seed in Group A.
At the moment, Magnolia is currently in a deadlock with Converge for third with a 5-4 win-loss slate, with the two teams clashing on Monday, the winner of which clinching the No. 3 spot.
Barangay Ginebra and Magnolia have yet to face this conference due to the tournament where only the group mates will go up against each other.
