THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has yet to submit the final 12-man list of Gilas cadets who will make themselves available for the coming PBA draft.
But the players present during a special SBP meeting in which Chot Reyes was announced as the new national team head coach again, would likely make up the core of cadets joining the October 30 event for incoming rookies of the pro league
“Most likely sila rin, but we haven’t given a final list to the PBA,” said longtime Gilas manager Butch Antonio on Tuesday, hours after the special SBP meeting with the cadet players at the Bonifacio Global City.
Among those spotted during the meeting were Jio Jalalon, Carl Bryang Cruz, Ed Daquioag, Kevin Ferrer, Matthew Wright, Von Pessumal, Russel Escoto, Arnold Van Opstal, Almond Vosotros, Roger Pogoy, Mike Tolomia, and Mac Belo.
A SPIN.ph source though, is uncertain about the case of Vosotros, who’s currently a rookie for Blackwater.
Ditto with Wright, the 25-year-old Fil-Canadian, who hasn’t suited up in the D-League yet but represented the country as part of Gilas in the last Fiba Asia Challenge Cup. As per PBA ruling, Fil-foreign players applying in the draft should have seen action in the league and played for the national squad.
“Hindi ko alam how the PBA and SBP will work on the matter,” said the same source
The PBA has extended the application for the Rookie draft from its original schedule of October 14 to Wednesday (Oct. 19).
Antonio said the SBP will definitely give the league its Gilas lineup by Wednesday.
