REIGNING MVP Arwind Santos is far from satisfied with the way San Miguel Beer finished the nine-game elimination round of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Beermen secured the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, but had to work their way out of an 18-point deficit, riding on an explosive fourth quarter scoring rampage for a 95-87 win over the Air21 Express on Wednesday.
San Miguel Beer finished the eliminations at 7-2 to grab the second seed behind league-leader Talk ‘N Text, which swept its nine-game assignment.
Santos, who scored 10 of his 18 points in the final period against Air21, said the Beermen are bracing for a tough quarterfinal battle.
“Hindi lang minsan mangyayari ito (defensive match). Maraming beses pa iyan, at lalo pa na nakikita ng ibang coaches ang nangyayari, yung pressure saka paano kami nilamangan,” Santos told Spin.ph.
The 6-foot-4 San Miguel forward said they can’t be complacent at this stage of the tournament, despite needing to win once to advance to the best-of-five semifinals.
“Malayo pa, mas importante ang susunud na laro namin, mahirap yung pumasok sa mentality sa isip ng mga players na mag-relax, so ready lang kami dapat,” stressed the former Far Eastern University “King” Tamaraw.
San Miguel is waiting for the result of the Rain or Shine-Ginebra Easter Sunday game that will determine the Beermen’s quarterfinal opponent.
