THERE was nothing extra special San Miguel did in coming back and stealing Game One away from the clutches of TnT Katropa.
It was just the Katropa not making their shots when the going got tough.
Struggling from the field in the fourth quarter, the Katropa saw the Beermen claw their way back and completed a grind-out 80-78 win to take Game One of their PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals series at the Mall of Asia Arena.
TnT couldn’t convert in the final 12 minutes of the Petron Blaze Saturday special as they shot just 2-of-15 from the floor during that stretch.
The Beermen, who shut down the Katropa’s outside gunners with their second half zone, capitalized on the situation and outscored the opposition, 20-13, to complete the comeback and move within a win of advancing to the semis.
The shooting woes weren’t lost on TnT coach Bong Ravena.
“We’re not making our shots especially when they played the zone. It could have been different if were making our three-points and outside shots. Yun lang naman ang storya dun,” said Ravena afterwards.
The Katropa finished with a paltry 30 percent from the field (24-of-80) compared to the Beermen’s 39.5 percent shooting (32-of-81).
“Kailangan gawan namin ng paraan yun (shooting),” added Ravena, who rued the team wasting the chance to win this one after in control for most of the match.
“Sayang we dominated for three-and-a-half quarters, Nahabol lang kami. Pero ganun talaga ang game, Learn from it.”
The good thing, according to Ravena, is that the Katropa have one more shot against the defending champion and turn the best-of-three series around.
“Basta we’re staying positive lang. As long as we have a chance pa, sige lang,” he said.
