TERRENCE Romeo played his best performance since coming back from an injury as he led San Miguel to a 120-107 win over Converge on Saturday at the Philsports Arena to clinch a semifinal berth in the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
San Miguel vs Converge Game 2 recap
Romeo delivered 22 points off the bench, most of which coming in the second quarter where the Beermen pulled away and eventually led by as many as 27 points. His teammates then overcame a late rally by the FiberXers to complete the sweep of the best-of-three series.
The win arranged a colossal match-up between San Miguel and top-seed guest team Bay Area in the best-of-five semifinals which will start on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.
San Miguel assistant coach Jorge Gallent, however, rued the play of the Beermen in the fourth quarter where the FiberXers were able to come back and cut the deficit to eight before they kept their composure to win the game.
“Again, we played good in the first three quarters and a half and we just relaxed in the last six minutes of the ballgame. I think we just stopped playing,” said Gallent.
Devon Scott had 20 points and 14 rebounds, while June Mar Fajardo had 18 points and 18 rebounds for San Miguel in the win.
Jeron Teng had 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Quincy Miller had 24 points for the FiberXers, who ended their conference with a four-game losing skid after winning seven straight contests.
