Expect same fireworks in SMB-RoS semis series, says Chris Ross

EXPECT the same fireworks when San Miguel Beer and Rain or Shine face off in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals starting on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Beermen and the Elasto Painters have been in heated playoff battles and the current best-of-five series promises more of the same, starting in Game One at 5 p.m.

SMB playmaker Chris Ross can attest to that, having had commotions, particularly with coach Yeng Guiao in the Philippine Cup Final Four last January when the Beermen asserted their mastery of the E-Painters.

“Every time we play them, it’s the same thing,” Ross said. “So expect from Game One all the way to Game Five is going to be fireworks and a lot of battles in the game.”

“We’re looking forward to it,” he added. “I’m sure they want some revenge and we’ll be ready for the task.”

More than the side events, Ross braces for a tough game matchup against the run-and-gun E-Painters.

“Playing against Rain or Shine is always a tough task because they push the tempo, shoot a lot of threes, and coach Yeng gives those guys a lot of confidence to play their game,” he said.

While he seeks to feed June Mar Fajardo more often, Ross has an easier life with a high-scoring import in Tyler Wilkerson.

“Obviously, we want to get June Mar move involved going forward, but when the game’s on the line, it helps that you have a really good import who can take you to victory,” Ross said.

“Scoring the ball is second nature for him,” he added of Wilkerson, who leads the Best Import race. “When he scores like that, it makes it easier for everyone else.”
