SAN Miguel hopes to have ace point guard Chris Ross back in time for the team’s defense of the PBA Philippine Cup next month.
Ross is currently in the U.S. to be with his mother, but kept an open line with management on when he’ll be able to return to the country.
Team manager Gee Abanilla said Ross is still awaiting the medical result of his mother, who is currently sick and needed the care of the veteran playmaker.
“Inaabangan ko pa rin. Hopefully, sana okay naman yung mother niya,” said Abanilla.

On Thursday, the league laid down grand plans of restarting the season on Oct. 9, announcing the setting up of a bubble inside the New Clark City in Angeles, Pampanga.
The sole conference of the season is expected to run for two months, with doubleheader games to be played at the Angeles University Foundation and the entire PBA delegation holed up at the nearby Quest Hotel.
Until the season came to a long break in March, the Beermen already carry a 1-0 record following their 94-78 rout of the Magnolia Hotshots in the lone game so far played in the All-Filipino.
The defending champion, however, will still miss five-time reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo, who’s currently recuperating from a pre-season surgery on his shin injury.
So it’s imperative to have the 35-year-old on board for the Beermen’s title defense.
“As soon na makuha niya yung last checkup (ng mother) niya, and maging OK na lahat hopefully, kukuha na siya ng flight pabalik dito,” said Abanilla.
Despite Ross not being able to attend the Beermen’s daily workouts at the Acropolis gym, the San Miguel team manager assured Ross has been keeping himself in good playing condition.
“Pero he’s keeping in shape. OK naman siya,” said Abanilla of Ross.
