SMB goes for title
San Miguel looks to close the finals series on Sunday in Game Six against TNT on Sunday night. The Beermen put themselves in position to finish off the Tropang 5G after their 96-82 win in Game Five last Friday.
The Beermen are seeking their 31st title overall, and a successful defense of the Philippine Cup crown. It would be SMB’s eighth title in 11 seasons in the Philippine Cup if the Beermen win Game Six.

Depth on display once again
TNT led by 16 points at one point early in Game Five, but being up by that much isn’t a safe gap especially when facing San Miguel. The Beermen poured it on in the middle quarters, outscoring the Tropang 5G, 28-19, and 30-13, on their way to the victory.
The game showed once again how deep San Miguel indeed is. The Beermen outscored the Tropang 5G, 42-27, with Kris Rosales being the unlikely hero with 12 points in Game Five.
Mo Tautuaa also came off the bench and delivered for the Beermen with 11 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and two steals in lieu of Rodney Brondial, a regular second stringer who started and had 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Keeping their cool
TNT seemed to have lost composure in the end not just physically but emotionally with a couple of technical fouls called against them especially in the fourth quarter. Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser even fouled out in the game, while Poy Erram and Rey Nambatac also battled foul trouble. With BGR and Erram saddled by fouls, SMB took advantage with a 46-22 advantage in points inside the paint and a 12-6 advantage in bench points. With its backs against the wall, TNT must stay focused in the game.
June Mar’s knee a question mark
There is a concern on the part of San Miguel as far as June Mar Fajardo’s health is concerned. The nine-time MVP suffered an injury to his knee after Rodney Brondial landed on him after being pushed. Fajardo eventually returned and played five minutes in the fourth quarter. Fajardo vowed to play in Game Six, but on whether he is at full strength or not remains to be seen.
