SAN Miguel seeks a 2-0 lead in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals when it takes on Rain or Shine on Monday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Beermen and the Elastopainters square off at 7 p.m.
San Miguel opened the semifinals on a high note after beating Rain or Shine, 111-105, with Chris McCullough finishing with 32 points and 14 rebounds, proving once again its seventh-seed during the quarterfinals isn’t an indication of the team’s caliber.
San Miguel coach Leo Austria said he has accepted the role of favorites in the series.
“Sometimes, I’m happy for the fact na sinasabi nila dahil alam nila na kaya naming talunin sila anytime,” said Austria. “If we play our best, I think it’s hard to beat us… I think the recent success of the team, lagi kaming llamado rito.”
June Mar Fajardo had an off-night in Game One after tallying nine points and one rebound, but Christian Standhardinger stepped up with 20 points and eight rebounds.
The Elastopainters actually fared well in the contest until they lost big leads in the second half only to falter in the end.
Carl Montgomery had 20 points and 17 rebounds for the Elastopainters as they dropped the series opener.
