SAN Miguel Beer took advantage of the absence of injured import Josh Davis in the second half to smother Meralco, 102-86, and break into the win column in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Petron Saturday Special at the Xavier University gym in Cagayan de Oro City.
Newly-signed import Arizona Reid and reigning league MVP June Mar Fajardo showed the way for the Beermen, dominating the shaded lane in Davis' absence to turn a tight 30-all contest into a 78-60 bubble.
Reid, who came in to replace Ronald Roberts early this week, banged in 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in his debut game for the Beermen this conference.
The 6-10 Fajardo, on the other hand, had his best game so far in the mid-season conference after finishing with 21 points and 22 rebounds to help San Miguel improve to 1-4, reviving its playoff chances.
The Bolts suffered just their first loss, falling to a share of top spot with sister team Talk ‘N Text at 5-1.
Davis left the game prematurely after landing hard on his back while trying to go for a block against Fajardo during the second period.
Play was halted with 7:16 left in the second quarter as 6-8 Davis was attended to on the floor by medics. He was eventually wheeled out in a stretcher and brought to the Bolts’ dugout.
He finished the game with just four points, five rebounds and one assist in 13 minutes of action.
Gary David led the Bolts with 23 points.
