IT seems San Miguel Beer is not only looking for a replacement import for AZ Reid in its PBA Governors’ Cup title-retention campaign.
The Beermen are now also open to the possibility of securing the services of an Asian import to boost the backcourt that has been bitten by the injury bug, particularly Chris Ross, who’s playing through a minor knee injury.
“It’s a welcome opportunity for us dahil we don’t know what will happen during the game going into the playoffs especially if somebody from the point guard or the wingman got injured,” Austria said after the team’s 106-103 win over Alaska on Wednesday night.
After a torn meniscus sidelined him in their loss to GlobalPort, Ross returned against Alaska and spelled the difference, especially in the defense end as he preserved the win with a block on Aces import LaDontae Henton.
“I’m really worried in this game because we don’t know yet if Chris will play or not, but having another point guard, maybe, could give us another weapon,” said Austria, who leaned heavily on Alex Cabagnot with Brian Heruela also missing the game.
The SMB coach, though, declined to reveal the names of Asian reinforcements in the list they are choosing from.
“We’re still searching dahil may lumalabas na na pangalan,” Austria said.
