SAN Miguel’s preparation for the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup got off to a fine start after beating Terrafirma, 116-94, on Friday in a tune-up game held at the San Miguel Corp. gym in Pasig City.
The Beermen got a strong showing from import George King and Jerrick Ahanmisi who knocked down a couple of outside shots in the fourth quarter to maintain their sizeable lead over the Dyip.
Incidentally, the two teams played in a tune-up game after they made a deal with each other, as the Beermen acquired Ahanmisi and Paolo Hernandez from the Dyip in exchange of Juami Tiongson and Chris Miller earlier this month.
San Miguel played without June Mar Fajardo due to his Gilas Pilipinas duties, while Jericho Cruz is also with Guam for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
San Miguel is back in harness since its early exit in the Commissioner’s Cup where the reigning Philippine Cup champion Beermen lost to Rain or Shine in the quarterfinals.
“Slowly, we are getting to our goal because this is our second week of practice,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.
“We still have another two weeks before our first game. And then, we have another tune-up game next week. At least, we’ll have two more tune-up games for our import George King to be familiarized with his teammates.”
