SAN Mig is rolling at this point, up 2-0 over Talk 'N Text in the PBA Governors Cup semifinals and seemingly headed to making history before the end of the season.
But Joe Devance is not lowering his guard, wary that this series can turn in a snap of a finger.
“We have to (close) this (series). This is Talk ‘N Text, so we can’t relax, not one possession against these guys,” said Devance after sparking San Mig's fiery start in a 93-85 win over the Texters on Saturday.
Devance fired 19 points while going 8-of-12 from the field to help set the tone for Game Two, which had things falling into place for San Mig while the Texters struggled to rediscover their old form.
Nonetheless, Devance warned that the Tropang Texters are a team that can turn it around pretty quickly, the reason he isn't even looking beyond Game Three of the best-of-five series on Monday night.
The 6-7 Fil-American said a grand slam, which the Mixers can achieve with another championship in the season-ending championship, isn't even in his thoughts at the moment.
“We all know it’s (winning the grand slam) achievable but it’s not in our minds right now,” said the top rookie pick of the 2008 PBA draft.
“Right now, it’s, just finishing Talk ‘N Text, and that’s always in our minds. Now, if that (winning the grand slam) happens, then great, but if we don’t get this third game, there’s nothing.”
