SAN Mig Coffee star James Yap admitted he had doubts about winning Game Six of the PLDT myDSL-PBA Philippine Cup Finals especially after Rain or Shine came charging back from a 17-point deficit and appeared poised to extend the Finals to a winner-take-all showdown.

“Meron time na pumapasok sa isip mo na ma-down ka, hindi maiiwasan 'yun,” Yap disclosed to “Pero nag-usap nga kami ni Ping (Marc Pingris) na laro lang talaga, 'di ba? Makuha nila (RoS) ang Game Six, makuha nila.”

“Kaya sa sarili ko laro lang talaga. 'Wag na lang isipin kasi andyan pa 'yung ma-pressure ka, magkamali ka pa, mapasama pa, so ayun focus lang,” he added.

Good thing, Yap and the rest of the Mixers managed to calm down and get their act together especially after the Elasto Painters grabbed a 67-66 lead entering the final quarter.

The Mixers played with poise in the final 12 minutes and kept a charging Rain or Shine side at bay to pull off the Game Six win, 93-87, and claim the best-of-seven title series, 4-2, on Wednesday night inside a jampacked Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

“Ganoon naman talaga ang championship kailangan hindi ka mag-panic, trust your system, whatever happens down ka man ng singkwenta or up ka ng singkwenta, stay with your system. Pukpok pa rin."

The pride of Escalante City finished the game with 10 points, two rebounds, and an assist as he helped San Mig clinch its sixth All Filipino title.

Yap along with Pingris were grateful for the undying support given to them by the family, friends, and fans.

“I'm super happy, first time na back-to-back (champion), and talagang nagtu-tulungan kami para makuha ito so thank you, thank you kay God,” said Yap.

The former University of the East star player also did not forget to mention the late San Miguel Corp. alternate board of governor Ely Capacio.
