San Mig just one win away from another PBA Finals appearance after Game Two romp over Talk 'N Text

    Jun 21, 2014

A RAMPANT San Mig side continued to roll on Saturday, dealing Talk 'N Text a demoralizing 93-85 win in Game Two of their PBA Governors Cup semifinal series to move within a win of a fourth successive finals appearance.

Quickfire Joe Devance hit three three-pointers early as San Mig opened a 20-point lead in the first half while Mark Barroca made sure a rallying Talk 'N Text team got no closer than five points in the endgame.

The win enabled San Mig to open a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, moving Tim Cone's one more victory away from a finals shot at only the fifth grand slam in the pro league's 39-year history.

San Mig is on course to wrapping up the 27th finals appearance in its long history, but coach Tim Cone warned that the Mixers can't afford to lower their guards at this point.

“Well, two games doesn’t make a series win when it’s a best-of-five. We only have two (wins) but we need another one,” said Cone, who is looking for the 29th finals stint of his checkered career.

Blakely scored 13 of his team-high 19 points in the second half while adding 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks as he steadied San Mig each time Talk 'N Text tried to come close.

Devance also scored 19 points, 15 coming during the first half that allowed the Mixers to take a 42-22 lead midway through the second period.

On the other hand, Barroca banged in seven of his 13 points in the final period, including a floater off Devance’s pass that gave San Mig an 89-80 lead with 51 seconds left.
