SOCIAL media was flooded with an outpouring of prayers and support for Samboy Lim, the well-loved PBA great who collapsed while playing in a Legends game and was rushed unconscious to a hospital on Friday night.
According to friends, Lim, 53, is confined in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Medical City where he was rushed unconscious after he collapsed, just moments after coming out of a game featuring former PBA stars at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.
Only close family members were allowed to visit the 'Skywalker' inside the ICU while friends like longtime teammate Allan Caidic, Vince Hizon, Noli Locsin and Nelson Asaytono kept vigil outside to show their support.
While worried fans flooded social media sites like Facebook and Twitter with offerings of prayers, Caidic sounded more optimistic as he wished his 'partner' a 'speedy recovery' on his personal Facebook page.
A large media scrum had formed outside the hospital awaiting news but most had left by midnight after the hospital announced that it will issue its first medical bulletin on Lim's condition at 7 a.m. the following morning.
Among those seen leaving the hospital past midnight were Samboy's younger brother Bonbon and Alvin Teng, who with wife Susan rushed to the hospital upon hearing the bad news.
“Nabigla din kami,” said Teng, who, together with Lim, were members of the San Miguel Beer squad that won the 1989 PBA grand slam.
The burly Teng said he and wife Susan stayed outside the ICU to show support for Lim’s family.
“Nasa ICU siya (Lim), pero nasa labas lang kami, nandun sila Bonbon (Lim’s younger brother) kanina, pero umalis na din, di na kami pumasok sa loob, sila lang mga relatives,” added Susan.
When Spin.ph caught up with him, Bonbon, his face downcast, only asked Lim’s well-wishers and fans to continue praying for his brother.
“Please, ipag-pray na lang natin siya (Lim),” was Bonbon’s short reply, before leaving the hospital.
