PBA commissioner Chito Salud upheld the flagrant foul penalty 2 calls made against Rain or Shine’s JR Quinahan and Ryan Arana, stressing they were “all correct calls.”
But at the same time, he said the duo were spared of being meted a suspension since `the play situations we are presently facing cannot be characterized as such so as to be reprehensible enough for suspension.’
“The penalty of suspension is an onerous and drastic measure reserved for violent and obnoxious acts,” added Salud in a statement.
As per league standard, a flagrant foul 2 usually constitute an automatic suspension.
Nonetheless, both Quinahan and Arana were slapped with fines of P20,000 each.
“We are avoiding unnecessarily depriving the teams and the fans of a complete player lineup as much as possible, but there are limits,” said the commissioner.
Nonetheless, Salud firmly told Arana and Quinahan not to repeat the same mistake, especially since the Elasto Painters are one of the strong contenders for the All-Filipino crown.
“I told them (Quinahan and Arana) to be careful because the competition is getting tighter and exciting. They need to check themselves and their tempers as well because their team is one of the frontrunners in the conference,” Salud said.
“I told them they wouldn’t want to deprive their team of their presence by crossing the line again.”
