NEW Year’s Eve is going to be a bit lonely for John Pinto, who will be without his family when the clock strikes twelve.
While the rest of his family is in his native Davao, the GlobalPort rookie is in Manila and will celebrate the turn of the year inside Arellano campus with former Chiefs teammates.
“Mag-isa lang naman ako, so sa dorm na lang muna ako, kasi nakakalungkot naman,” he said in a chat with Spin.ph on Wednesday. “At least may mga makakausap.”
At least he managed to go home to his hometown and be with his family for Christmas, before flying back to Manila in time for the resumption of Globalport practice last Friday.
But the young point guard is not complaining as he celebrates the New Year without his family for the first time.
After all, it is a sacrifice for his family, especially for his one-month-old son, Rosh John.
Pinto said he spent more than P150,000 during his girlfriend's labor.
“Sakit sa bulsa,” the 24-year-old playmaker admitted with a laugh.
He wishes his family all the best this coming year.
Pinto is hell-bent on making a mark next conference after being the last option in a backcourt rotation that had Alex Cabagnot, Terrence Romeo, and Stanley Pringle.
Overall, it has been a learning experience for the former Chiefs star in his debut conference in pros.
“Iba talaga sa PBA. Kailangan ko talaga pagtrabahuhan.”
“Pero sobrang sarap. Lahat ng player pinapangarap ‘to,” he was quick to add.
But Pinto, who has a one-year contract with the Batang Pier, is not focused on individual praises.
He is now bracing for another possible change in the team after Alex Cabagnot was traded for Sol Mercado, who could be sent to Barako Bull for Denok Miranda.
