RYCE Canete Aguirre couldn’t believe his luck one afternoon when he got a rare chance to play against Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel Alab Pilipinas import Justin Brownlee in a 1-on-1 game in his neighborhood.
Aguirre is the person in a viral video that Brownlee challenged in a streeball game, where the two-time PBA champion import showed no mercy posterizing his young foe.
SPIN.ph was able to track down Aguirre for a brief interview where he related how shocked he was seeing Brownlee in person.
The 21-year-old Aguirre said he was playing with his friends near his home late afternoon in Barangay Little Baguio in San Juan when someone from a car showed up looking to play with them.
”Katatapos lang namin maglaro ng mga kaibigan ko tapos po nagulat kami na may sumisigaw na 1-on-1 tapos nakalabas ulo niya,” said Aguirre, who works at Xavier School.
Aguirre admitted he was not able to recognize Brownlee immediately until he got out of the car. A Ginebra fan, Aguirre said he was naturally thrilled.
“Pero hindi ko pa siya kilala nun. Nakilala ko na lang siya pagbaba nila. Tapos naglaro na po kami,” said Aguirre.
Aguirre scored a jumper during the 1-on-1 match, but eventually lost to Brownlee in the game, all of his three points coming on dunks.
Aguirre said he enjoyed playing against Brownlee and even being dunked on during the game as he will cherish the moment forever.
”Sarap po ng feeling na kahit talo, okay lang po,” said Aguirre.
