THE long-standing tandem between RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo is officially over.
This after the PBA Commissioner's Office approved on Tuesday the trade that sent GlobalPort's Garcia to Barako Bull for Keith Jensen, a deal first reported by Spin.ph on Monday.
A draft of the proposal signed by GlobalPort team manager BJ Manalo and his Barako Bull counterpart, Raffy Casyao, was given a seal of approval by Salud, who deemed the trade fair.
The deal will have Garcia playing against Romeo for the first time since their days at Far Eastern University, where they formed a popular but often contentious partnership in the backcourt.
Garcia took the trade in stride, seeing it as an opportunity to spread his wings at Barako Bull where he will share the point guard chores with Denok Miranda, Willie Miller, and Jeric Fortuna.
The pass-first guard had to compete for minutes in GlobalPort's backcourt with Romeo and Alx Cabagnot, and he figures the rotation will become even more crowded with the Batang Pier among the first to pick in the next rookie draft.
"Wala naman ako magagawa kung mate-trade ako. Akin lang, maganda na rin siguro kasi malamang first pick ang GlobalPort (sa draft), baka guard na naman kunin nila," said Garcia, who was picked sixth overall in the last rookie draft just behind Romeo.
"Yung paglipat ko dito maganda na rin kasi atleast nabawasan mag-aagawan sa rotation ng guard nila roon. Tapos dito sa Barako kahit papano may spot ako," he said.
Jensen, the eighth pick overall by Ginebra in the 2012 draft, brings versatility to the Globalport after blossoming into a two-way player in his first full season with Barako Bull.
Spin.ph tried to contact Jensen, but the vastly improved forward flew to San Diego, California last Saturday for a short vacation.
