GILAS Pilipinas snapped its two-game skid with lopsided 95-77 demolition of New Zealand club team Super City Rangers at the St.Kentigern's gym in Auckland.
The national squad fed off the warm reception from the Pinoy contingent that came in to lend their full support to the team currently in the thick of preparations for the Fiba-Asia championships in Manila next month.
"Big win tonight vs. the Rangers. Thanks to all the Pinoys here in Auckland who came out and supported (us)," said Gilas assistant coach Josh Reyes on his Twitter account @josh_reyes.
The morale-boosting victory serves as a preparation for the Gilas squad which will close its six-game tune up against the New Zealand nation team also known as the Tall Blacks on Thursday.
Before the 18-point rout over the Rangers, Gilas dropped two close matches against the NBL All- Stars and the Wellington Saints after opening the New Zealand trip with back-to-back wins over the Hawke's Bay Hawks.
The national squad improved to 3-2 in its six-game series of tuneup matches.
Gilas returns to Manila this weekend before resuming its final phase of training in time for the August 1-11 showpiece serving as the Asian qualifier for next year's world championships in Spain.
