CHRIS Ross said it’s unfortunate the ‘Spiderman’ incident in Game Five detracted from what has been a beautifully played, fiercely fought PBA Philippine Cup finals between San Miguel and Magnolia.
Ross said the Game 5 incident that saw a man in a Spiderman costume running the floor and colliding with June Mar Fajardo has overshadowed the quality of play both teams are dishing off in a series that is going the distance.
“The first six games have been pretty good games. Even the last game (Game Five),” said Ross after Game Six. “A lot of you guys are talking about what happened at the end of the game but it has taken away how well we played and how well they played.”
“No one is even talking about the game,” the 34-year-old Ross rued.
Game Five ended with Mark Barroca scoring a buzzer-beater for an 88-86 win, giving Magnolia the 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. But that exciting finish has become a mere footnote after the Spiderman incident.
“We went on a 20-2 run to start the third and Barroca made the game-winner. Nobody’s talking about that. Everyone is talking about what happened,” Ross said.
Despite the incident, Ross said he expects Game Seven to be another action-packed match as San Miguel goes for its fifth straight title while Magnolia looks to put an end to the Beermen dynasty.
“I expect everyone to be at their best. I expect Magnolia to be at their best, too," he said. “Both teams are playing well and (playing) high-level basketball. I think Game Seven would be another one."
