RAIN or Shine and Alaska have agreed to a trade that will have Maverick Ahanmisi moving to the Aces for Ping Exciminiano and a 2019 first-round draft pick, a source confirmed on Thursday.
The papers of the trade are now at the PBA Commissioner’s Office awaiting approval, according to the source.
Alaska actually has two first-round picks for 2019, one of which is part of the deal that sent Calvin Abueva to Phoenix Pulse. Rain or Shine will be getting the lower of the two picks.
Ahanmisi was drafted third overall by the Elastopainters in 2015 after playing NCAA Division I ball at Minnesota. The Fil-American also played for Gilas Pilipinas as part of the ROS core that joined Jordan Clarkson in the 2018 Asian Games.
Ahanmisi averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 steals, while converting 52 triples during the 2017-2018 season, third best in the team behind Chris Tiu and James Yap.
Exciminiano, meanwhile, has been with Alaska since being picked in the second round of the 2013 draft. A two-time member of the All-Defensive Team, Exciminiano averaged 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds for the Aces in the 2017-2018 season.
The inclusion of a 2019 first-round pick will bode well for the future of the Elastopainters as they will now have three picks in the first round in that draft, one of which acquired in the Raymond Almazan trade to Meralco.
