RAIN or Shine just can’t get a break with import Greg Smith II.
After initially facing an issue regarding a Letter of Clearance (LOC), the Elasto Painters now face the prospect of finding a replacement for Smith, who suffered a pulled hamstring in the first half of the team’s 110-99 loss to NLEX in the PBA Governors’ Cup Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Greg Smith II injury update
Smith finished with only three points and three rebounds and was no longer fielded in by coach Yeng Guiao in the entire second half after sustaining the injury.
“Hindi na namin sinugal pa nung second half,” said Guiao. "But it looks like we have to look for a replacement."
"Meron siyang layup na kinapos yung layup niya na parang hindi siya naka-take off," added the Rain or Shine coach on when did Smith sustained the injury.
The Elasto Painters fell to a 2-6 record in a tie with Terrafirma and NorthPort after going down to their second straight loss, and Guiao said the organization will now have to burn the lines in its search for a new import in time for its game against Phoenix on Wednesday.
So far, the team has no one else in mind right now.
"Wala pa. Ngayon lang kasi namin (nalaman)," said Guiao, "We'll see what happens. Biglaan, e."
In what was supposed to be his second game with Rain or Shine, Smith sat out the match against Terrafirma as he has yet to get a clearance from his former team in the Dominican Republic, prompting FIBA to call the attention of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
Rain or Shine also tried to bring in Smith for the 2016 Governors Cup, but was ruled for being over the height limit of 6-foot-5.
He made it this time as the import height limit now is 6-foot-6.
