CHICAGO — Rather than keep an unhappy employee, Rain or Shine made a move to trade one of its beloved players ahead of the Season 50 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Love, after all, means letting go, right?

“We offered Mamu (Gian Mamuyac) to Titan [Ultra] for ( Bryan) Sajonia,” RoS coach Yeng Guiao told me in a telephone interview on Wednesday night.

The Giant Risers, however, declined the 1-for-1 swap.

AND FOR GOOD REASONS.

While not yet a polished gem like the four-year vet that is Mamuyac, Sajonia has incredible potential.

Picked 39th overall in the Season 50 PBA Rookie Draft, Sejonia turned heads during the Commissioner’s Cup where he torched Meralco for 29 points while unloading five 3s.

The Season 101 NCAA Finals MVP, Sanojia scored 23 versus Rain or Shine.

Titan Ultra rookie Bryan Sajonia's career game goes down the drain.

The 26-year old former Red Lions guard could've been an easy fit for an Elasto Painters squad that is notorious for their dogs on both ends of the floor.

Mamuyac, on the other hand, averaged 13 points, four rebounds and 3.8 assists last conference and could inject more experience to the Titan roster.

NO MORE MOVES FOR NOW.

Citing “the lack of urgency” as Mamuyac’s contract has been auto-extended until December, Guiao said there are no other planned moves to ship Mamuyac.

But make no mistake, Guiao added, Mamuyac’s name will stay on the trading block and the team will patiently wait until the right opportunity comes along.

Rain or Shine has a standing offer of P330.000 a month for three years for the former Ateneo Blue Eagle.

“That’s their offer that we won’t agree with,” Mamu’s agent, PJ Pilares, told me via text message.

It’s a risky move to play without a long-term deal as Mamu’s value could drop if his performance dips, or God forbid, an injury occurs.
