ANOTHER young gun just boarded the fully-loaded the Rain or Shine bandwagon.
Mike Malonzo was signed to a contract by the Elasto Painters on Tuesday, making him available to suit up for the franchise at the start of the PBA Commissioner's Cup which gets underway on Wednesday.
Malonzo was signed by the team for the rest of the league's Season 49.
Coach Yeng Guiao was around when the rookie, selected in the second round by Rain or Shine in the last draft, signed his first-ever PBA contract.
Also in attendance were deputy coach Caloy Garcia and Edgar Mangahas, who represents Malonzo.
The 6-foot-3 Malonzo is the latest rookie to join the Elasto Painters this season after Felix Lemetti, Caelan Tiongson, and Francis Escandor.
He’s also another addition to Rain or Shine’s youth brigade that has the likes of Jhonard Clarito, Adrian Nocum, Santi Santillan, Andre Caracut, Gian Mamuyac, Keith Datu, Shaun Ildefonso, Anton Asistio, and Luis Villegas.
Malonzo played college ball at National University and is coming off a stint with the San Juan Knights who lost in the Northern Conference finals against the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the MPBL playoffs.
He’s yet been lined up by the team after the league released the official rosters of team on Monday, but is part of the Elasto Painters’ plan moving forward as they eye to end their eight-year title drought.
Rain or Shine reached the semifinals of the last two conferences, including the just concluded Governors’ Cup.
