RAIN or Shine is looking to hit the jackpot in the 2019 PBA draft after obtaining another first round draft pick through a trade this week.
Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia said the team is now looking at the future after pulling off a trade that sent Maverick Ahanmisi to Alaska for Ping Exciminiano and a first-round draft pick.
The Elastopainters now have three first-round draft choices for the 2019 draft, one of which also came through a trade that brought Raymond Almazan to Meralco.
“We are looking at the draft,” said Garcia. “In short, we are getting younger.”
The 2019 pool is expected to be deep, with Thirdy Ravena, Joshua Munzon, Jason Brickman and Alvin Pasaol among the potential draftees.
“You’ll never know who’s going to join the draft. We are hoping its going to be a good draft,” said Garcia.
The Rain or Shine coach added the trade will also give other young players opportunities, while adding another defender in Exciminiano, a two-time All-Defensive Team.
“Nambatac is playing well and we want to give chances to Jayjay Alejandro and Kris Rosales. Adding Ping gives us another dimension. He is a good defender. But basically, we are also looking at the draft,” said Garcia.
