RAIN or Shine has a ready back-up plan in case Gian Mamuyac opts to leave the franchise.
Back-up guard Anton Asistio will be returning for his fifth season with the Elasto Painters after coming to terms on a one-year contract extension.
The contract extension came just as negotiations between Mamuyac and team management continue to drag on with just three weeks left before the season-ending PBA Governors’ Cup kicks off.

Asistio played a big role in the Elasto Painters’ strong showing in the Commissioner’s Cup, which saw the team win its first seven games, finish as the third seed, oust powerhouse San Miguel Beer in the quarterfinals, and extend eventual champion Barangay Ginebra in a highly-emotional six-game series in the semis.
The Ateneo product averaged 5.2 points, 1.0 rebound, and 1.4 assists in the second conference. The streak-shooting guard also ranked third best in 4-point shooting with an average of 41.6 percent (5-of-12).
He was Rain or Shine’s second round pick (No. 22) in the 2020 draft.

A two-time UAAP champion with the Blue Eagles, Asistio was recently in the news after clips of his past interview along with former teammate Shaun Ildefonso emerged on social media, where they detailed the training camp they went through during their time under former Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin.
ROS team governor Atty. Mamerto Mondragon led the contract signing which was witnessed by Asistio's agent Marvin Espiritu of the Espiritu Manotoc Basketball Management.
