RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao won’t get away with a light tap on the wrist following his latest tirade against the PBA and its officiating.
Guiao was fined a total of P22,000 for shouting 'Wala ng nanonood sa atin, ref' following his ejection and later criticizing the officiating during the Elasto Painters’ Governors Cup game against Alaska last week.
The bulk of the penalty amounting to P20,000 was for his criticism of the officials, with the additional P2,000 for the technical foul he earned for entering the court in the second period.
RoS big man Beau Belga was also fined P5,000 for the flagrant foul he committed during the same game.
Guiao was ejected late in the third quarter of the Saturday match for incurring his second technical foul.
Shortly before he left the playing court of the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the Rain or Shine coach was heard shouting, ‘Wala nang nanonood sa atin, ref,’ to drive home his point that bad officiating is turning the fans away.
The game tape was up for review on Monday, but the PBA had no office work due to bad weather.
Asked later if he sees a fine coming his way, Guiao replied, “I have no expectations whatsoever of either side. Whatever it is, ano naman yun ibig sabihin meron namang rules that apply.”
Rain or Shine won the game, 117-114, but the win hardly cooled down Guiao who was still fuming over the 'confusing' officiating under Commissioner Chito Narvasa during the post-game interview.
“It’s not only me pero marami ng hindi nakakaintindi kung ano yung foul at hindi foul,” he said. “I just felt it’s not just calls going against us, although there were some, it’s just that the confusion of not knowing what a foul is and what not a foul is, that’s where the confusion lies.
“Okay lang yung may masamang tawag na alam mong masama, pero ang mas mahirap, yung hindi mo alam kung masama o tama yung tawag. Yun ang mas mahirap.”
