THE so-called ‘Sargent Slaughter’ combo at Barangay Ginebra will have to wait a while.

Rookie Julian Sargent is currently hampered by a shoulder injury and will not be available for the Kings as they make one final push in their bid for a PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal berth.

Sargent was acquired by the league’s most popular ballclub in a trade with GlobalPort for young guard Paolo Taha.

His acquisition immediately gave Ginebra - and wrestling fans alike – the idea to connect him with big man Greg Slaughter and adopt the tag ‘Sgt. Slaughter,’ taken from the retired former World Wrestling Federation (WWF) heavyweight champion and the animated character that appeared in the G.I Joe series.

According to coach Tim Cone, the former La Salle guard underwent PRP procedure for his injured shoulder last Thursday.

“So that holds him out for a little bit longer. He’s still feeling pain on the shoulder,” according to the champion mentor.

Since being acquired by the Kings two weeks ago, Sargent hasn’t joined the Kings in their daily drills.

“He hasn’t been on the practice court yet, but we hope he can start doing some smaller things maybe Tuesday or Wednesday,” added Cone.

The Kings round out their elimination-round campaign against Globalport on Friday in a game that definitely has a huge say on the playoff bid of both teams, which are currently tied at 5-5 (win-loss records).

It’s unfortunate the 6-foot-1 Sargent won’t still be able to play against his former team.

“He won’t be available to play against Globalport or maybe, not a couple of games beyond that,” said Cone. “We’ll play it by ear depending on how he responds to the treatment.”

To Sargent’s credit, he’s religiously attending practices of the Kings at the Upper Deck Sports Center in Ortigas.

“He’s there every day. He just can’t participate,” said Cone
