ROOKIE Ed Daquioag is not about to get carried away after coming through with a PBA career game on Saturday.
The 25-year-old freshman said tomorrow is another day as he is quickly put behind him the 23 big points he pumped in against NLEX in Meralco’s 106-93 win in the Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
TNT Katropa is next for the Bolts and Daquioag is well aware he’ll have superstar guard Jayson Castro for a possible defensive match up.
“Yung next game iba na ang kalaban nun, yun na yun si Jayson Castro na,” said Daquioag, who was 9 of 14 from the field and 2 of 2 from three-point range, while adding four rebounds and three assists
"Yun na yung sinasabi ko na medyo intimidated ako, siyempre ang galing nun, ina-idolize ko yun so pag-hahandaan ko yun. For sure matatapat din ako sa kanya.”
Against NLEX, the Gilas rookie cadet hardly looked intimidated as he teamed up with sophomore guard Chris Newsome in delivering the killer blows against the Road Warriors.
The young duo was responsible for the huge 21-5 run by the Bolts in the payoff period that had the team turning around a three-point deficit to a 100-87 lead.
Both Daquioag and Newsome had 10 points during the final quarter. They both finished with career-highs of 23 and 28, respectively.
Daquioag said his career-high is his way of helping the Bolts be competitive in the all-Filipino conference, the same tournament where they ended up with a woeful 1-10 record last season.
"Alam maman natin last all-Filipino 1-10 sila, so kailangan naming mag-improve talaga," he stressed.
