RONALD Tubid urged Kia to maintain a sense of urgency even though they have already been eliminated from playoff contention in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The Picanto saw their playoff hopes burst when they absorbed their eighth loss in nine games in the form of a 95-76 beating at the hands of Blackwater on Friday night in a game where they trailed most of the way.

Tubid was one of the few bright spots for the cellar-dwelling Picanto, scattering a game-high 22 points, highlighted by six three-pointers, eight boards, and one block in 30 minutes off the bench.

And that’s the kind of contribution he’s hoping to see from the rest in the team.

“Eliminated na kami pero ang mindset playoffs para in case next conference na umabot kami dun, we're ready,” Tubid said. “Yun lang sinasabi ko sa mga bata, we need to grind it, we need to finish this conference strong, sana manalo kami ulit.”

The 36-year-old Tubid flashed his vintage form in the second quarter where he scored 14 points to keep the Picanto within striking distance, going down by just six points at the half.

But the veteran wingman would rather see the rest of the Picanto put up a collective effort to have a better chance to at least compete.

“Magagaling naman talaga mga bata eh – don't do it by yourself lang, we need to play as a team lagi,” Tubid said. “So minsan kasi we tend to go one-on-one e. Sa mga bata kasi sobrang...sabi ko kontrolin nyo yung energy niyo para sa better ano ng team.”

“Minsan kasi pag sobra-sobrang energy, pag opensa ka, pag too much, nawawala ka. so kailangan team kami gumalaw kasi underdog kami kahit saang area ng court, mapa-point guard hanggang sa center.”

Tubid, though, knows their improvement won’t come overnight.

“It's a process eh,” the 15-year veteran said. “Very young team tapos we changed systems for like one week lang, so ‘di mo naman makukuha agad yun in one conference, sobrang gagaling na namin pag nakuha namin kaagad yun.”

“But it's a process, yung team namin very young team and ie-emphasize ko talaga sa teammates ko na sabi nga ni coach if we play normal game, talo talaga tayo, tambak talaga tayo,” he added.
