VETERAN wingman Ronald Tubid faces a possible suspension following the flagrant foul penalty 2 he committed against Chris Newsome in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup game between San Miguel and Meralco on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 35-year-old Tubid has been summoned to appear at the Commissioner’s Office on Tuesday to explain his side on the fourth-quarter incident that left the Meralco sophomore with a welt on his right eye.
Tubid is certain to be slapped with a fine and risks a suspension, depending on the meeting with Commissioner Chito Narvasa and a review by the league's technical staff, a source said.
Although apologetic for what happened, the pride of Iloilo City said he’s ready to face the consequences of his act.
“It is what it is kung i-fine ako ng PBA. Susunod naman ako sa rules ng PBA. Sorry,” he said after the game which the Beermen won, 99-92.
The play happened at the 9:12 mark of the final quarter when Tubid hit Newsome with a close fist on the right eye as the two were going for a rebound following a miss by Baser Amer.
Newsome had no comment on the matter, although Tubid repeatedly said he has no intention of hurting anyone, much more the soft-spoken Meralco guard.
“Sorry talaga,” he said. “Bahala na next game, tanggap ko naman.”
San Miguel will next see action on Friday against Phoenix at the Mall of Asia Arena.
