AFTER being at the receiving end of a James Yap elbow, Ronald Tubid simply shrugged off the incident between him and his best friend during the PBA Governors Cup game between San Miguel and Star on Sunday night.

The former University of the East teammates went at each other several times during the game, none more defining than the play in which Yap's right elbow run smack to the mouth of the tough-playing San Miguel wingman on a drive.

Yap was called for an offensive foul in the play.

Initially, Tubid thought he would be called for a flagrant foul. But following a series of reviews by game officials – and several replays of the incident on the giant screen at the Big Dome – the Star marquee player was the one handed the infraction.

“Ako pa ang (muntik) tawagan ng flagrant (foul), eh ako nga ang nasiko. Ang pangit naman nun,” he said after the game which the Beermen won, 109-100.

“Kung hindi pa ni-review, hindi pa babaguhin (yung dapat itawag). Point of view ko lang naman yun. Sana lang huwag ng mangyari uli.”

He said everything is water under the bridge, especially with San Miguel posting its third win in four outings heading into All-Star weekend.

“Tapos na yun. Panalo, panalo, e,” said the veteran guard, who finished with only two points, but played extended minutes while getting the assignment to contain the hot-starting Yap.

He considered the elbow incident as part of the game, “nangyayari talaga yun.”

Tubid and Yap go a long way back from their time at University of the East that he doesn’t need to talk or apologize to his close friend and kumpare, James being the godfather of his eldest son.

“Wala yun, kami pa ni James,” he said with a big laugh.
