A YEAR after parting ways in a controversial trade, Ronald Tubid and San Miguel Beer are back in each other’s arm.
Tubid is set to return to the Beermen camp through a one-on-one trade with Columbian Dyip for Keith Agovida, according to SPIN.ph sources.
The trade papers have already been submitted to the PBA office for approval on Monday.
Tubid, 37, was part of the trade between San Miguel and Columbian Dyip for the No. 1 draft pick last year which enabled the Beermen to select Christian Standhardinger.
Along with Tubid, the Dyip also got Jay-R Reyes, Rashawn McCarthy, and a 2019 first round draft pick in return.
The deal appeared to be in favor of the Beermen, but given the age of Tubid, one source privy to the trade said the transaction is just about even for both teams.
Agovida is 28 years old and has been buried in the San Miguel bench since being acquired by the franchise in 2016.
“Si Tubid ilang taon na lang ang ilalaro niyan, while si Agovida bata pa,” shared a source on condition of anonymity, pending the official approval of the trade.
The acquisition of Tubid caps a busy, post-draft day for San Miguel, which earlier traded for the rights to Terrence Romeo from TnT Katropa and Paul Zamar from Blackwater.
Tubid, picked in the second round of the 2003 draft (16th overall), was a key player off the bench for San Miguel in his four-year stay with the ballclub, helping the Beermen win three straight Philippine Cup championships and one Governors Cup title.
Agovida, the 34th overall pick by Blackwater in 2015 (4th round), will be making a homecoming with Columbian Dyip, where he suited up briefly in 2016 before being shipped to San Miguel.
