IF there’s one player who’s proud to do the dirty work, it’s Ronald Tubid.
The veteran San Miguel Beer guard turned pesky on the defensive end, proving crucial to the Beermen’s second-half rally that rewarded them with a 101-96 victory over Talk ‘N Text in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Tuesday.
In the middle of SMB’s fightback, Tubid drew two fouls—one offensive and the other defensive—on Kelly Williams, then forced Jayson Castro to commit a turnover in the third quarter.
“Enjoy playing defense lang,” the former All-Defensive Team member said. “Sino ba naman ang player na they enjoy playing defense, halos kakaunti ‘di ba? So kailangan mag-start sa veterans.”
The 33-year-old Tubid is definitely one of them as he’s been in the league for 12 years and he showed grace under pressure, while getting in the head of his opponents.
“Pag masyado kaming pressured sa laro, nawawala laro mo,” the Ilonggo wingman said. “But when you enjoy the game, parang walang pressure.”
The former University of the East star also contributed offensively, tallying 10 points as he made all his four shots, on top of two rebounds, one steal, one block, and one assist in 22 minutes—playing time he didn’t expect.
“Kala ko ten minutes lang ako maglalaro eh.”
