ROMEO Travis rued Alaska's 'defensive lapses' in Game One of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals against San Miguel Beer on Friday night.

The Aces played their first game since Sunday, or after they swept Star in three semifinal games, and looked listless from the get-go as they fell into an early hole they never got out of on the way to a 108-78 beating.

“I wouldn’t call it rust,” Travis said. “We just came in unprepared. They came in more aggressive than us offensively and defensively and it showed.”

“I also wouldn’t call it lack of energy,” he added. “It was just mistakes. We made a lot of mistakes defensively.”

Travis even said they played “hard,” although the Aces failed to cover some defensive rotations, while the import played below expectations on the other end.

“I think we played hard. We just missed some rotations and I didn’t play well offensively,” said Travis, who contributed just 14 points on 6-of-18 shooting in 35 minutes. “If our offense is better, our defense is better.”

But the lefty American forward is taking solace from the fact that’s it’s a best-of-seven series.

“It’s a very ugly game, but it’s still only one game,” he said. You beat us by thirty, but it doesn’t count for two games. It’s a very long series.”

“Nobody’s walking around smiling,” he added. “Everybody should be looking at themselves, reflecting on what they can do better for Sunday. If anybody was walking around smiling, I would be upset by them. But nobody should put their head down, crying, either.”
